Investment Banking Headshots: What Deal-Team Bio Photos Need

EF
Emmanuel Fuentes
Photographer & Creative Director

An investment banking headshot should look conservative and match the deal team: dark suit, plain background, steady expression, tight crop. Individual sessions in the Bronx start at $149. Below: where it gets used, what to wear by level, and how to schedule around live deals.

I'm Emmanuel Fuentes, a photographer based in Riverdale, The Bronx. This guide is for bankers from analyst to MD, and for whoever has to make a whole group look like one firm. Session options and prices for the industry are on the headshots for finance page.

Where an Investment Banking Headshot Actually Gets Used

One photo ends up in more places than most bankers expect. Before the session, it helps to know every crop it will have to survive.

  • The firm's bio page. Usually a vertical crop on a plain background, sitting in a grid with everyone else in your group.
  • Pitch books. The team page puts small headshots next to names and titles, often printed smaller than a postage stamp.
  • Deal announcements. The tombstone itself usually carries logos and terms, not faces, but the LinkedIn post or press release around a close often features the senior bankers.
  • LinkedIn. Clients, recruiters and the other side of the table look you up here. See LinkedIn headshots for that crop.
  • Conference and panel bios, plus internal directories.

The practical rule: shoot for the smallest use. Your face has to read clearly at thumbnail size on a pitch-book page, so the frame stays tight and the lighting stays even. I also leave room above the head and at the shoulders, so the same file crops cleanly to a vertical bio, a square LinkedIn photo and a circle.

The Conservative Look: What to Wear From Analyst to MD

Banking photos sit closer to a law firm's than a startup's. The differences between levels are small. The goal is to fit with the people above and below you on the same page, not to stand out.

For women, the same logic holds at every level: a dark suit or a tailored dress with a jacket, an ivory or white blouse, small earrings and no statement jewelry. Skip sleeveless tops, since the bio crop often stops at mid-chest.

Taking a tie off between frames takes seconds, so you can leave with both a pitch-book version and a LinkedIn version. The hedge fund headshot guide goes deeper on buy-side wardrobe and what is dating finance portraits right now.

Why a Deal Team Needs One Look, Not Twelve Good Photos

Picture a pitch-book team page with twelve faces side by side. One was shot outdoors, one is cropped at the waist, one is warm and one is cool. Each photo might be fine alone. Together they make the team look assembled from parts.

Consistency comes from four things held constant: the same background, the same light, the same crop line and the same editing. That is easiest when the whole group is photographed in one session, under one setup. My team headshots are built around exactly that.

Your firm may already have a standard for background tone, crop ratio or file naming. I can't know any firm's internal rules, so check with your marketing or brand team for the current spec and send it, with a few current bio photos, before the shoot. I match framing, tone and editing to what is already on the site.

New hires arriving after the shoot are the usual weak point. The post on matching headshots for staggered hires covers how to keep a new analyst class on the same look.

Plain Backdrop or Soft Background: Which Reads as Banking

A plain backdrop is the safe default for banking. It reads institutional, drops into any bio template and is the easiest look to match across a team. A softly blurred outdoor background feels warmer and works well for LinkedIn or a smaller advisory firm, but it is harder to match to an existing grid.

The simplest rule: match what your firm's bio pages already show. If every face is on plain gray, a park background will stand out in the wrong way.

If you are weighing a studio against an on-site day for a group, in-studio vs. on-location team headshots lays out the trade-offs.

Scheduling Headshots Around Live Deal Timelines

Banking calendars move. A signing slips, a diligence request lands on a Friday, and the photo you planned gets pushed. Build that into the plan instead of fighting it.

For individuals, sessions run on weekends and on weekday evenings, Monday to Friday, 5 to 6:30 PM. Booking closes 48 hours before a session, and rescheduling is free with 48 hours' notice. A weekend morning in a quiet stretch between deals is usually the easiest slot to protect. Riverdale is reachable on the 1 train or Metro-North's Hudson Line.

For a group, I come to your office on a weekday and set up a portable backdrop in a conference room. Each person steps away for roughly 5 to 10 minutes, so nobody leaves a live call for long. Travel in the Bronx and lower Westchester is included; for an office elsewhere, ask when you send your headcount.

Individual options for bankers are on the finance headshots page.

What a Hypothetical Deal-Team Day Looks Like

Say a 12-person M&A group wants matching photos before a new pitch season. At $99 per person, that is $1,188, with 2 retouched headshots each, so 24 finished images. Larger groups or full days are quoted as a team photo day, from $1,495.

At 5 to 10 minutes a person, twelve people take roughly one to two hours of shooting, plus setup. Here is how I would run it:

  1. Pick a day with no client meetings on the group calendar, and name one backup day.
  2. Give MDs and VPs fixed times first, since their calendars are the hardest to move.
  3. Let analysts and associates fill the open slots, so a slipped meeting never stalls the line.
  4. Have one person hold the list and send the next name over.
  5. Ask everyone to bring a tie, even if they plan to shoot without one.

The step-by-step version, including what to send people the day before, is in how to prepare for a team headshot day. To get a date and a total, send your headcount through the team headshots page.

FAQ

Should my investment banking headshot match my LinkedIn photo? Ideally they come from the same session. Use the tie version on the firm site and in pitch books, and the no-tie or slightly warmer frame on LinkedIn if your group's norms allow it. Same light and crop keeps both recognizably you.

Do I need a tie for my banking headshot? Follow what your group wears in front of clients. If you're unsure, wear one and take it off for a second set of frames. You leave with both and can decide later which one goes where.

Can you match our firm's existing bio photos? Yes, largely. Send a few current bio photos and any spec from your marketing team before the session, and I match the framing, background tone and editing so new photos sit in the same grid.

How much do investment banking headshots cost? Individual sessions are $149 outdoors or $199 in the Riverdale studio, each with 3 retouched images. Team headshots at your office are $99 per person with a $495 minimum. Book a session or see the Bronx photographer page for locations.

Where are individual sessions held? Outdoors in Riverdale and Van Cortlandt Park, or indoors in the Riverdale studio for the Studio Headshot. The studio address is sent with your booking confirmation. Lower Westchester locations are covered on the Westchester photographer page, and you can book online.
